Congress registration and hotel booking

In accordance with the statutes of the Congress, no professional qualifications are required for registration. The membership categories are Congress Member, Accompanying Member, Student Member, and Youth Congress Member.



For participants giving oral or poster presentations, there will be an abstract fee of €40 in addition to the requested fee (below).

Single day registration is also available at a cost of €150 per day (lunch and rail travel not included). Single day registration is permitted for more than one day on the condition that these are consecutive days.

NB! The half-Congress dates are: 1st half: 6-10 August; 2nd half: 10-14 August

A contribution of €15 to IUGS is included in the fees. Pensioners (from age 65) pay the student registration fee. Students must submit documentary evidence of being enrolled at an educational institution in the year 2008. Youth Congress Members must be accompanied by Congress Members and are eligible if between 7 and 15 years of age. All categories of members may take part in field trips or other arrangements when duly registered.

All prices are subject to change. Prices are based on current Norwegian tax regulations. If tax regulations change (for instance by introducing VAT on congress fees), the prices will change accordingly.

Congress fees include:

All members:
- Access to Scientific sessions and exhibitions, Congress documents and publications
- Rail travel to and from the Congress Centre
- Lunches in the Congress Centre, coffee/tea breaks
- Opening and closing ceremonies, Icebreaker.

Accompanying and Youth Congress Members:
- As above, with the exception of access to the Scientific Sessions, the Congress documents and publications.
- In addition, there will be several excursions and events which will be published on the web.

Field trips and selected short courses will have separate fees.


Payment of fees must accompany all registrations. No registration will be confirmed until payment is received.

Payment should be made in EURO and in advance by:

1. Holder of American Express, Visa and Eurocard/Mastercard/Access may use their credit cards for charging all the costs. Your card number and expiry date must be filled in on the registration form.

2. By SWIFT electronic funds transfer to:

Bank payments should be free of any bank charges to the conference.

You must submit the registration forms online. You are free to pay by credit card or bank transfer. Should you prefer to pay by bank transfer, payment must be made within 15 working days after submission or your registration and all other services required will be cancelled. All participants will receive an email confirmation / receipt of registration acceptance.


Cancellations of registrations should be notified in writing
to the Congress Secretariat.

Cancellations received from 1 December 2007 to 30 June 2008 will receive a 50% refund. There will be no refunds for cancellations received after 1 July 2008.

In the case of partial reduction of room nights received after 1 July 2008 the hotel will decide if a penalty will be applied. In the event of a no-show, hotel reservations will be cancelled after one night. No-shows cannot be refunded. Refunds will be made using the same method chosen for the payment (i.e. payment by credit card will be refunded to the same credit card).


All reasonable endeavours will be made to hold the 33rd IGC and to present the printed programme as scheduled under circumstances which assure the comfort and safety of the Congress participants. However, neither the 33rd IGC nor any of its branches, nor their officers, employees, representatives or agents, shall have any liability to any person as a result of any cancellation of the Congress or any of the arrangements, programmes or plans connected therewith or any loss, injury, damage or inconvenience which may be suffered by any person while travelling to or from, or during such person’s presence in, Norway in connection with the Congress. Participants are advised to consider procuring their own insurance against any such occurrences.
